America the Beautiful...

On this, our Nation's Birthday, I find myself awake too early for a day off. I heard on TV a poll. It asked a group of people if they thought the Founding Fathers would be proud of how we celebrate our nation on this, it's Birthday. Only 29% said they think the Founding Fathers would be proud. I think they would be shocked and awed, but how can you not be proud of this Nation? From a small settlement in their time, to a mega super power now. We still hold elections, and we try to get the right people into office to support our personal views, but it isn't a perfect process, and we survived. We have the most advanced Space program. Our Military is a force to be reckoned with. You and I have Freedoms that other countries die to have. So why are so many hating us? Is it jealousy? I read a lot on the Internet, and the loudest voice of the Internet hates the U.S. Why? Do they forget the good things this country does? Do they forget the opportunities that get presented to everyone here? Of course they do... we just concentrate on the Bad, the Evil, the Shock Factor. No one cares that there is good still left in this world.

I challenge you... whoever reads this... to be a "Good" and recognize the "Good" in this world, this nation, your community, your home, your marriage... and even in you. You will be a lot happier, and things will become more clear...

Going to finish up with the one song that can sum it all up. Thank you Katherine Lee Bates and Samuel A. Ward for this, a perfect summation of what this country is, will be, and should be:
O beautiful, for spacious skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain!
America! America! God shed His grace on thee,
And crown thy good with brotherhood, from sea to shining sea.
O beautiful, for pilgrim feet
Whose stern, impassioned stress
A thoroughfare for freedom beat
Across the wilderness!
America! America! God mend thine ev'ry flaw;
Confirm thy soul in self control, thy liberty in law!
O beautiful, for heroes proved
In liberating strife,
Who more than self their country loved
And mercy more than life!
America! America! May God thy gold refine,
'Til all success be nobleness, and ev'ry gain divine!
O beautiful, for patriot dream
That sees beyond the years,
Thine alabaster cities gleam
Undimmed by human tears!
America! America! God shed His grace on thee,
And crown thy good with brotherhood, from sea to shining sea!

No matter where I am or what I'm doing, I thank God that I live here every day. Thinking of all the places I've seen and people that I've met across this country, I honestly believe this is the greatest country on Earth. I love to travel and I want to see a lot of places outside the U.S., but I will always come back (to Montana most especially). I'm proud to be an American (to steal a line from Lee Greenwood).
